Neural Bloom#2

Interactive installation | 2025

Neural Bloom#2 is an interactive installation that reimagines breath as a distributed act among species, transforming a fundamental biological gesture into a poetic, shared space. The work proposes a bio-inspired neural network composed of responsive sculptural nodes – inflatable paper objects – each symbolizing species engaged in an invisible exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Inspired by the Danube Delta ecosystems, the installation speculates on respiratory interdependencies transformed into visible and sensory elements, suggesting delicate connections between organisms and the atmosphere.

Through an ecofeminist lens, Neural Bloom#2 challenges a Cartesian paradigm and reconsiders breath as the basis for coexistence. As Luce Irigaray suggests, “If we had said ‘I breathe, therefore I am’ instead of ‘I think, therefore I am,’ society might have evolved as a more inclusive and interdependent one.” Here, the atmosphere is not void but an invisible commons – a stage for continuous negotiation among species, a site of co-breathing.
